Open Source Investigations in Corporate Security

Paul Raffile, Global Security Analyst and investigator for ‎Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc works to ensure the safety and security of Alexion’s patients, employees, global sites, and supply chains worldwide.

During his presentation, he will demonstrate how open source intelligence (OSINT) tools brought together can help respond to security threats worldwide and perform online corporate security investigations. One of the highlighted case will analyze a supply chain diversion of the most valuable pharmaceutical drug. Beginning with a single anonymous ad discovered online, Paul will walk through the investigative techniques that ultimately helped identify who was in possession of the drugs, where they were being stored, and how they were being traded in a black-market pharmaceutical ring. Another case will illustrate how to investigate fraud and money laundering schemes perpetrated by scammers impersonating business executives and hiring managers at the company.

Before joining Alexion, Paul was a researcher at the Center for Analytics on a government project to analyze terrorism data in the Middle East. He has contributed research to the U.S. Department of State, Amnesty International, United Airlines, and the American Criminal Justice Association.
