James B. Ferguson, Esq. NYS Parole Commissioner-Retired on "The controversial Herman Bell release and the future of New York's parole system." In his presentation, Ferguson will talk about the recent and highly controversial release of police assassin Herman Bell. Bell, a former Black Liberation Army member, served more than 40 years in prison for the slayings of NYPD Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones and was freed on April 27, 2018. Ferguson will explain the Parole Board process, the implications of Bell's release, the evolution of the New York Parole system and what role organizations such as SPI can have in the process.
